Anyone near the Gulf Coast that didn't attend the September 2007 Greg Gates Music Conference missed a great opportunity to network and hear practical information shared by DJ Chuck T, Wendy Day -Rap Coalition, Janiro Hawkins II -SEA Awards, Wes Phillips -A&R Select-O-Hits Distribution and many other music business professionals.
Some of the information discussed during the panels was mixtapes relevancy? Can independents make money off ringtones and the Internet? How can attendees benefit at future music conferences and record pool meetings?
In responding to the questions I mentioned the new music business model and my theory of how music would be used to generate money in the future. I mentioned that people should have one to three very specific goals and objectives for attending a music conference or record pool meeting. They should go in an effort to network and add value to the conference. Create various revenue streams, learn to make money online and remember that the music business is not all fortune and fame. You may earn 20% of ad revenue for sharing music business videos once you become a Revver member. It's really easy.
I create, record, edit and upload great music business video content. You embed (copy and paste some html code) on your music business website, blog or social networking site so others can learn about the music business. The more people that see the entire video the more money you make, it's that simple. You could use the video at the top of this music business blog on your website or simply include a link about the blog in your email blast. The process is really simply and only takes a few moments.
Essentially, you're being rewarded for sharing music business video content to music industry professionals, recording artist, garage bands, singers, songwriters, music producers, music managers, record labels, entertainment lawyers, etc. To get started open a Revver Account by Clicking Here, it's free.

Music Conference Travels by JaWar
Over the past few weeks I've attended the TJsDJs Music Conference in Miami, the Future of Music Policy in D.C., Cutting Edge Music Conference in New Orleans and Atlantis Music Conference in Atlanta.
I've had fun, learned some new things and met a lot of great people at each music conference. Before attending any conference I made sure I'd had more than enough fliers promoting the Music Industry Connection Book Series, the Music Industry Connection Books themselves and a positive mental attitude. Having a great attitude has given me the opportunity to create situations that is leading to increase revenue, brand recognition and market share for my clients and I.
I've benefited most by being prepared, getting to music conferences earlier and staying late, giving a flyer to everyone at the conference, collecting as many business cards and fliers that I could and adding something of value to others while at the conference.
Most of us distribute fliers promoting our music or music related business seeking the attention of our target market. As a way to add value to a music conference and give something of myself, my fliers have a number of websites and blogs on how to make money online and advance your music business career. By doing this it is likely that more people will keep my fliers longer than they normally would because there is something of value for them. Word to the wise, give something of yourself, add something of value and you'll be rewarded; yes indeed.

Some People Just Don't Get It!
B. Brown of Bar Red Entertainment had contacted a music conference organizer about attending their event. The organizer asked Mr. Brown if he had secured sponsorship? Mr. Brown asked what was the price, the organizer said $100.00. Mr. Brown explained he wasn't prepared to pay that amount and was actively promoting the conference on good faith through email campaigns and various websites including mymusicconference.blogspot.com.
Mr. Brown asked would the organizer give concession to him promoting the music conference in exchange for lowering the price? Mr. Brown explained that there would be a total of 5 people and that he sought a sponsorship table to actively promote his music business and clients. The organizer agreed. I was cc on the email.
Upon arriving at the event the organizer requested we pay $100.00 to attend the conference. Mr. Brown and I looked at each other, like this is some *&^#;-)@ here. We negotiated a lower price, but it was more than what was originally agreed to. Had we been in Atlanta we would have turned around and went home, however after driving for several hours it didn't make much sense.
Even when you achieve a certain level of success and people know you, they may still try you. The music conference was not well attended. It may have something to do with how the organizer does business. We all reap what we sew, good, bad or otherwise. Always treat people better than you want to be treated, attempt not to speak ill about anyone and stay focused on your goals and objectives.
